Odds slashed on snow at Cheltenham as freezing temperatures forecast

Bookmakers have slashed odds on snow falling at Cheltenham with the news that Freezing temperatures are on the way.

A cold freeze is forecast to hit the UK in the coming weeks, with temperatures predicted to fall as low as -11C as an arctic blast sweeps the nation.

The extreme weather is set to hit the UK on March 12 and some forecasters reckon it will hang around for a couple of weeks.

With the Cheltenham Festival scheduled to run between March 14-17, some punters will undoubtedly be fearful that snow may disrupt the action.

Bookmaker's William Hill certainly seems to think so, as they have slashed odds to evens on there being snow at Cheltenham

A William Hill spokesperson said, "It’s looking more and more likely that we’ll have a rerun of 2018’s conditions in the snow with this forecast!

“The Cheltenham Festival is just around the corner and with wintery conditions seemingly on the way, we make it just even-money that snow falls during any of the four days of the biggest meeting of the racing calendar.”

Five years ago, Storm Emma caused severe snowfall in the UK. In order to get the course ready in time for that 2018 Festival, 250 tonnes of snow were removed from the course just days before the first day of racing.

The racing went ahead as planned on that occasion, but the same can't be said for the 2008 Festival, when the second day of action was cancelled as a result of poor weather conditions.
