Newcastle Ocean Baths will be closed for several weeks for the first annual sand removal and maintenance since the site's refurbishment.
The baths were shut on Wednesday, August 7 and are due to reopen again on August 28, subject to weather conditions.
Heavy machinery is on site for the work, and an exclusion zone is in place from the volleyball nets on Newcastle Beach to Cowrie Hole.
Lifeguards have been redeployed to Merewether Baths for the shutdown period.
Newcastle Ocean Baths are closed for weekly cleaning every Wednesday, and several weeks over winter each year for the annual deep clean.
It is the first major closure of the site since the upgrade of the pool and lower promenade was completed in December 2023.
It comes as Newcastle council is reviewing feedback on stage two of the ocean baths' revitalisation.
The second stage involves upgrades to the pavilion, car park area and Canoe Pool.
