'Obsessed!' - Manchester United fans troll Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder after Europa League jibe

Some Manchester United supporters mocked Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder after he said it would have been "nice" to have been paired with the Reds in Monday's Europa League draw.

Following their failure to win their Europa League group last week, despite beating Real Sociedad 1-0 in their concluding group game, United must navigate their way through a two-legged play-off round against Barcelona in February. The draw was made in Switzerland on Monday morning, pitting the eight Europa League group runners-up up against the eight sides that finished third in their Champions League groups.

The winners of the eight play-off ties will progress to the last-16 of the Europa League and continue their European dream this season. Ajax were among the clubs to drop down from the Champions League and into the Europa League.

The Dutch giants could have been drawn against United and former manager Erik ten Hag, but were handed the task of getting the better of German outfit Union Berlin. Schreuder, who became something of a hot topic among United fans during the summer, as the Reds chased Antony's signature, has admitted since the draw that he would have liked to have faced the Reds.

He said: "Drawing Manchester United would have been nice, but we are satisfied with this draw."

That innocent comment wasn't enough for some United fans to forget about the digs Schreuder made against United in recent times. During the Antony transfer saga, Schreuder appeared to mock United for failing to qualify for the Champions League.

"We are playing Champions League football," he said. "I don't think Manchester United are playing Champions League football."
