The area around popular Bristol pub The Cornubia could be "transformed" as part of a new development which is being proposed in Redcliffe. Developers Boultbee Brooks are hoping to renovate Canningford House on Victoria Street, and their plans would see changes made to the outside of The Cornubia.
A new landscaped courtyard will be built, and part of that will be used as a new outside seating area for the pub, which came runner-up in the Campaign for Real Ale's 2022 Bristol pub of the year award.. And there will be a new pedestrian walkway connecting Victoria Street and Temple Street, which will lead to the courtyard and which the developers say will be similar to Hawkins Lane at Finzels Reach.
A website which outlines the proposal says: "Our scheme would see the historic ‘Long Row’ pedestrian route reinstated, connecting Victoria Street with Temple Street. The space around the Cornubia – which sits within our site – would be transformed into an attractive and welcoming environment opening onto Temple Street, supporting and celebrating this important historic and much-loved pub."

It adds that the pub is "largely obscured" at the moment with no access from Victoria Street, and "uninviting" access from Temple Street. But developers say that creating the new walkway "will help encourage more footfall", while the courtyard will have a "hugely positive impact on the pub, providing an inviting external drinking & eating space for customers".
Canningford House itself will also be redesigned, and developers hope to create new office space for 500 more people than the building currently accommodates, while only increasing its height by one storey from seven to eight. There will also be ground floor spaces in the courtyard which will "probably" be used for cafés or restaurants.
