Liverpool fans booed Newcastle United off the pitch following a frustrating night of streetwise tactics from the away side and injury-time clashes in the dugout.
The Reds won their second consecutive game of the season at Anfield, coming from behind on an evening full of drama, tension and gamesmanship. Fabio Carvalho’s 98th-minute strike decided a tight game after Roberto Firmino’s cool finish on the hour cancelled out Alexander Isak’s first-half goal.
And the 19-year-old’s emphatic winner - smashed in from close-range off the underside of the bar - led to clashes between the coaching teams in the dugout, with Eddie Howe’s staff seemingly furious that referee Andre Marriner allowed nine minutes of added time despite only five minutes being allocated.

BT Sport’s coverage after the game showed one of the away side’s staff seemingly throw a missile across at the home dugout as they celebrated, kickstarting a confrontation and some verbal sparring between the two sides.
After the full-time whistle, the Magpies went to the away end to thank their travelling support - who were exceptionally vocal throughout - but were met with audible boos and jeers from the remaining home support as they left the pitch.
Newcastle’s time-wasting approach to the second-half after taking the lead frustrated Liverpool throughout, and Reds fans will feel vindicated that the eventual winner came so late as a result of said tactics - as did some of Jurgen Klopp’s coaching staff, evidently.
The away side consistently took their time with set plays, kicked balls away and went down with various cramps and injuries in a bid to slow Liverpool’s momentum. And their approach to the game worked for the most part, with shared points looking almost certain until Carvalho’s last-gasp finish.
