A letter from two Republican senators has surfaced, revealing emails that suggest the Obama administration hindered the FBI from arresting supporters of Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, including known terrorists within the U.S.
The letter, addressed to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Attorney General Merrick Garland by Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson, alleges that the State Department, led by John Kerry, actively impeded FBI operations related to the lawful arrests of terrorists and criminals supporting Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Unclassified FBI email records from August 2017 reportedly highlight at least eight instances where the FBI, DOJ, and U.S. government could have pursued cases linked to the Iran deal, but were blocked by the State Department. The emails indicate that the State Department allowed a known terrorist to leave the U.S. and prevented arrests in several cases, resulting in missed opportunities to apprehend key individuals.
The obstruction was reportedly lifted after former President Trump assumed office, leading to the arrest of at least two targets. Senators Grassley and Johnson are now demanding archived email records from key officials, including John Kerry, CIA Director Bill Burns, Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, by June 4th.
The revelations come amidst reports that the State Department offered assistance to Iran in locating a crashed helicopter, raising concerns about the administration's approach towards Iran.
