Oasis star Liam Gallagher pops into chippy for fish and battered sausage supper

A fish and chip shop owner has spoken of his surprise and delight after Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher popped in for a spot of supper on holiday.

Gallagher, believed to be holidaying in the Peak District, placed his order at Toll Bar Fish and Chips in Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire.

Peter Grafton, who owns the chippy, said the rocker ordered a 'selection' of food including fish, chips and a battered sausage before posing for photographs with other customers.

Gallagher also posed for a picture with Mr Grafton's wife, Kirsten - an image the chippy shared onto its Facebook page, saying Liam had 'found his oasis in the Peak District'.

The chippy owner, speaking to the BBC, said: "He's such a familiar face."

"The shop was very, very busy," he added. "A few people approached him for photographs and he was very, very polite. He was lovely.

"He had a selection of things: fish, chips, peas, curries, pies and a battered sausage."

Mr Grafton told the BBC he had heard the Roll With It hitmaker was staying in a nearby holiday cottage.

"My wife asked if he was enjoying Derbyshire and he said 'very much, it's a nice place'," he said.

And he said the encounter had changed his view of the Burnage-raised singer, who in the past was known for his bad boy image.

"I wasn't a fan of his because of the persona that comes over but, having met him, I have to say my opinion has changed 100 per cent," Mr Grafton said.

Gallagher isn't the first star to enjoy the delights of Derbyshire.

Mr Grafton said he has encountered the likes of Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker and Tom Cruise before - the Hollywood A-lister was reportedly shooting a Mission Impossible film in Stoney Middleton two years ago.
