Oasis star Paul Arthurs has announced he has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
Paul, 56, who is known as Bonehead, took to Twitter on Tuesday to tell his fans he will be taking a break from performing so he can start his course of treatment.
The guitarist wrote: "Just to let you all know I'm going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
"But the good news is it's treatable and I will be starting a course of treatment soon. I will keep you posted how it is going."
"I am gutted I am missing the gigs with Liam and the band."
Liam Gallagher sent his well-wishes to the musician, telling Paul on Twitter "you'll be back on stage before you know it".
He wrote: "Sending BIG love to the 1 n only Bonehead and his family wishing you a speedy recovery we’re all thinking of you rasta you’ll be back on stage before you can say r we doing Colombia LG x" (sic).
Former Oasis star Andy Bell also commented: "Get well soon Bone."
Oasis frontman and long-time friend of Paul Liam has 31 concerts scheduled and will kick-start his tour in Manchester on June 1.
He will then travel across Europe with shows in Denmark, Spain, Portugal and Belfast.
Last summer, the pair performed together during Gallagher’s headlining sets at Reading and Leeds festivals.
Fans soon rushed to the comment section to show their support to Paul as he prepares to start his course of treatment.
One follower wrote: "We will always support you bonehead you’re a legend. I will pray for you always."
"Get well soon Bonehead take care of yourself see you back on stage soon", typed another.
A third fan of the band chimed: Hi Paul. Am sorry to hear this news but I am sending u love and strength and best wishes.. take care of yourself and get well soon look after yourself".
Another follower added: "We'll miss you a lot, legend. Have a great recovery".
Tonsil cancer can cause difficulty swallowing and symptoms include a sensation something is caught in your throat, earache and jaw stiffness.
Treatments for tonsil cancer include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
Paul is best known as the rhythm guitarist, occasional keyboardist and co-founder of the rock band Oasis.
The guitarist is a founding member Oasis alongside brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll.
But Paul quit the band in 1999 so he could spend more time with his two children. At the time Oasis were recording their fourth studio album.
Arthurs and Gallagher first started playing together in the band The Rain, which Gallagher suggested be renamed Oasis.
They did not enjoy much success until Gallagher’s brother Noel joined and they became global stars.
Arthurs has continued to work with Gallagher over the years, including in his band Beady Eye and on his solo projects.
It comes as Liam said having a solo career was "boring" for him - saying he much rather prefers working alongside other musicians in a band.
Liam and brother Noel enjoyed eight UK number one singles and eight UK number one albums to go alongside six Brit Awards as Oasis.
However, there was a massive fallout between the Manchester brothers which led to the band splitting in 2009.
Both Liam and Noel didn't waste any time in launching new projects, with Liam a part of Beady Eye and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds forming shortly after.
He told MOJO Magazine that being solo is "boring as f***, to be fair. I’d much rather be in a band, all bashing it out together. But as long as it sounds good that is all that matters."
