The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) issued a statement on Saturday urging for peace among Venezuelans during the day of protests organized by both the opposition and the government.

OAS Statement Highlights:

The OAS emphasized the importance of peace, reconciliation, and justice in Venezuela. The statement called for the rejection of messages of hate and the avoidance of fear, repression, and death. It urged every Venezuelan participating in the protests to embrace a spirit of democratic coexistence for lasting peace.

The OAS acknowledged the significant hardships faced by the Venezuelan people, including hunger, poverty, migration, disease, political imprisonment, torture, and death. It called on the international community to prevent such atrocities from occurring again and emphasized the need for peace to prevail over repression and terror.

The statement emphasized the importance of ensuring that there are no more political prisoners, torture victims, missing persons, or casualties in Venezuela. It stressed the country's right to prosperity, sovereignty, and a return to peace through democracy.

Conclusion:

The OAS's call for peace and unity among Venezuelans comes at a critical time as the country grapples with political unrest and social challenges. The organization's message serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding democratic values and human rights in Venezuela.
