NY Fashion Week: Tory Burch's Sublime Skirts Define Everyday Elegance

Fashion Week always brings excitement and anticipation to the fashion world, and this year's New York Fashion Week did not disappoint. With designers showcasing their latest creations on the runway, it was a true celebration of art and style. One designer who made a statement with her collection was Tory Burch. Known for her classic looks, Burch decided to take a contemporary approach this season.

Walking down the runway to the sounds of The Cure and Joy Division, models donned skirts inspired by lampshades. These brightly colored and sometimes shiny skirts were designed to stand alone at the waist and fold up like origami. Burch explained that she wanted sharp corners, but also the ability for the skirt to transform into nothing. This play with structure and functionality was her way of celebrating the 20th anniversary of her brand.

The skirts were paired with lightweight tops featuring long sleeves and hoods, adding a touch of casualness to the overall look. Burch's aim was to make the everyday sublime, and she certainly succeeded. By incorporating sharp lines, bold colors, and innovative design elements, she created a collection that was both wearable and unique.

Another designer who showcased their talent at Fashion Week was Carolina Herrera. Known for their precise and streamlined silhouettes, the brand's autumn-winter collection stayed true to their signature style. Ruffles adorned sleeves and skirts, adding a soft and feminine touch to the otherwise structured designs. Embroidery also played a significant role, adding intricate details to the garments.

Carolina Herrera's classics were not forgotten, with pencil and ruffled skirts, as well as black-and-white checked suits making an appearance. However, it was the infusion of color that truly set this collection apart. Wes Gordon, the brand's artistic director, took a departure from the traditional black, white, and brown palette and embraced vibrant hues. Blocks of red, navy blue, and even florals were incorporated, adding a sense of vibrancy to the collection.

Gordon aimed to strike a balance between the dramatic use of colors and the precision and discipline in the cut of the garments. By doing so, he created a collection that exuded power and confidence. This was meant for a woman who is unafraid to make a statement, who embraces her individuality, and loves clothes as a form of self-expression.

Fashion Week always showcases the creativity and artistry of designers, and this year was no exception. Tory Burch and Carolina Herrera presented collections that were not only visually stunning but also pushed boundaries and challenged conventions. Whether it was Burch's innovative skirt designs or Herrera's fusion of vibrant colors and precise cuts, these designers reminded us that fashion is a form of art that can elevate the everyday to the sublime.
