Nvidia RTX 4090 confirmed: 5 biggest GeForce Beyond announcements

Nvidia, one of the largest computer chip manufacturers in the world, held a new stream today sure to entice both hardcore gamers and those interested in future technologies. The stream had a large focus on gaming and consumer hardware, before giving robust examples of what Nvidia technology can do for other industries, including self-driving cars and AI.

Here we’re breaking down the biggest announcements the event had for video game fans so you’re prepared for the next generation of PC gaming.

Portal RTX DLC coming free in November

This is huge. Portal hasn’t had an update in many years, and now we’re finally getting what essentially looks like a full remaster. Portal RTX is a free DLC pack releasing in November that will give Portal a full makeover. The ray-traced lighting is just the icing on the cake for this incredible-looking DLC remaster. Easily an essential for anyone with an RTX GPU and a copy of Portal in their Steam library.

Nvidia 4080 and 4090 GPUs announced for October

The current generation of GPUs is being superseded next month. The RTX 4080 and 4090 are a pair of beastly GPUs, with the 4090 boasting up to three times the speed of the previous beast, the RTX 3090. The 30 series of GPUs are still incredibly powerful, but the new 40 series will outpace it, and come with some brand new features, such as DLSS 3.0.

RTX Remix will allow you to build RTX mods for games

RTX Remix is a brand new set of tools you can implement into pretty much any game, and it will assist in giving that game AI-upscaled textures, in addition to complete ray-traced lighting. How easy it’ll be to use these tools with existing games and a variety of engines remains to be seen, but it’ll surely be a huge boon to excitable modders.

DLSS 3.0 will create new frames to boost FPS

This might be the biggest announcement of the show. DLSS 3.0 promises not just higher perceived resolutions with better performance, but more frames for your game. It uses temporal information to construct intermediary frames, boosting overall framerates, especially when combined with the performance saved from reconstructed resolutions. What this means is that playing 40 series GPUs when playing one of the 35 currently confirmed DLSS 3.0 compatible games will result in a smooth gaming experience practically unparalleled with other systems and configurations. At least, that’s the promise.

Omniverse will connect everything

Nvidia’s Omniverse development platform is expanding. While the future for Omniverse is still somewhat unclear, it’s intended to be accessible from a variety of devices, essentially allowing expansion of the metaverse. Of course, as of right now it doesn’t sound too different from the internet and AR technology, but the future of the metaverse is promising.
