A nurse who survived a harrowing attack at a Pennsylvania hospital shared her chilling experience on social media. The nurse, Tosha Trostle, described being used as a shield by an armed man who held her at gunpoint with her arms zip-tied behind her back. Trostle recounted how she pleaded with the attacker to release her as they encountered a group of responding police officers.
She vividly recalled the tense moments as the attacker pressed the gun against her neck and spine, and the chaos that ensued when police opened fire. Trostle expressed gratitude for the officers' swift actions that ultimately led to the assailant being shot dead.
The incident, which took place at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, resulted in the tragic death of West York Patrolman Andrew Duarte and injuries to several others, including hospital employees. Trostle and her colleague, Jessica Breighner, were among those who faced the terrifying ordeal.
According to Trostle's account, the attacker initially targeted Breighner, forcing her to be restrained with zip ties. The nurses' harrowing experience included moments of sheer terror as they grappled with the armed assailant.

Despite the trauma of the attack, both nurses displayed remarkable courage and resilience. Breighner managed to free herself when the attacker's gun appeared to be out of ammunition, allowing her to escape to safety.
The community has been deeply affected by the tragic events at the hospital, with District Attorney Tim Barker indicating that the assailant had prior contact with the intensive care unit for undisclosed reasons. The hospital has emphasized its commitment to safety and privacy in the wake of the incident.
Trostle's poignant retelling of the events serves as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifices made by those who responded to the crisis. As the community mourns the loss of Officer Duarte, whose funeral is scheduled for Friday, Trostle's words echo the profound impact of the traumatic event on all those involved.
