Nuno Mendes to Manchester United: Ruben Amorim facing 'stumbling block' over key transfer target

Manchester United reportedly need to sell to buy before they can consider moving for Paris Saint-Germain star Nuno Mendes.

The Portugal international has been touted as a key target for Ruben Amorim, albeit PSR limitations could prove a stumbling block this month.

Amorim’s much-discussed 3-4-3 system naturally relies on wing-backs and Luke Shaw’s injury has forced the right-footed Diogo Dalot to operate on the left for much of his tenure thus far.

As a result, Mendes is said to have emerged as a key target. The left-back rose to prominence under Amorim’s watch at Sporting CP before joining PSG in the summer of 2022.

Still, the 22-year-old has only started eight Ligue 1 games this season and is out of contract next summer.

Signing Mendes, however, may prove difficult for United.

According to The Independent, the club need to sell players in order to raise funds.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Casemiro have been linked with moves away, while Kobbie Mainoo is said to be of interest to Chelsea.

While Mendes is understood to have been identified as a key target, the Old Trafford giants are believed to be well short of both his valuation and potential salary demands.

Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly come up in talks with the French giants, albeit there is no suggestion the Argentine could be involved in any kind of swap for Mendes.
