Nuno Espirito Santo Tottenham debutant signs contract with Premier League club after summer exit

Former Tottenham youngster J'Neil Bennett has joined Brentford B following his summer release from the north London club. Coming through the system at Spurs and making a big impression in Premier League 2, the attacker wrote his name into the history books in March 2019 after scoring the first ever goal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in an Under-18s match vs Southampton.

Bennett finally made his debut for the first team in August 2021, coming off the bench for the final nine minutes in their Europa Conference League qualifier away at Pacos de Ferreira. That would be the only appearance he made for the senior side, however, as he soon joined Crewe Alexandra on a loan deal.

The Camden-born winger was one of seven development squad players to be released by the club at the start of June following the conclusion of his contract. Having impressed at Brentford in the summer following his Tottenham exit, Bennett has signed a deal until the end of the current campaign, with the Bees having an option to extend that by an additional year.

“J’Neil came in and made a fantastic impression on us in the summer because he has fantastic quality in the final third," said Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane when speaking to the club's official website.

"He got injured and it’s been a difficult period for him. We’ve been able to help him get back to full fitness and we know that looking at the games ahead he can make a real impression on the squad because of his quality at the top end of the pitch.

"We hope he can assist and score for us and keep adding to our attacking elements and the players that we have who have done so well for us. It creates more competition for places which is what we want.”
