Re: "Toxically un-Thai," (letters, June 1).
Felix Qui overlooked a key reason why the government maintains Thai numerals that was left unspoken by Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngam. Thai numerals are a mainstay of the government's dual pricing policy at national parks, historical sites and other tourist attractions owned by the government. Without the ability to post Thai prices in Thai numerals, foreign tourists with no knowledge of the Thai language whatsoever would be able to see at a glance that they were being asked to pay several times more than Thai visitors pay to see the same attraction.

Re: "Vits trump jabs", (PostBag, June 2).
Michael Setter, among others likes to push the narrative of the ineffectiveness of vaccines in the Covid pandemic. I am a healthy 76-year-old male. Last Monday I contracted Covid. The symptoms quickly built up until by Wednesday I was in the worst throat pain I had ever experienced. I could hardly breathe and taking anything but sips of water was impossible. I thought I would die. The pain was so intense with spasmodic peaks. And a bad cough compounded the issue. I was convinced I was in for a long-haul recovery.
But 24 hours later I felt relief. Another 24 hours and the pain was gone, though the cough remained. But now, just over a week later I feel as right as rain. I felt as if something was coming to my aid as I improved. It was palpable. The answer is clear. Pfizer, Pfizer, Moderna. Vaccines not only saved me but speeded up my recovery and no-one will convince me otherwise.

Dooming Ukraine
Re: "US to send advanced rocket systems", (BP, June 2).
"We will provide the Ukrainians with more advanced rocket systems and munitions that will enable them to more precisely strike key targets on the battlefield in Ukraine [italics mine]," says Joe Biden.
Last time I looked, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky was begging for a rocket system that could hit targets on Russian territory. By downsizing the type of system he is willing to provide, Mr Biden has doomed Ukraine to defeat. Mr Zelensky will be able to defend his own territory, but will be unable to attack the territory of his enemy. Essentially he will be fighting with one arm tied behind his back.
Biden's pusillanimity on this issue is yet another reason for Americans to feel ashamed. First he turns the Afghans over to the tender mercies of the Taliban, then he pulls the rug out from under the feet of the Ukrainians.

Re: ''Sanctions don't work", (PostBag, May 16).
Kuldeep Nagi doesn't seem to realise that there is no "negotiating with Russia" as it is run by a dictatorial madman who isn't listening. Sanctions are not aimed at hurting him, but pressuring the Russian people and government into removing him. They are a much better alternative than all-out war against a demented psychopath with his finger on the nuclear button.
