South Australia has recorded 4,595 new COVID cases with the number of patients in hospital jumping to 209 — including eight people in ICU.
Hospitalisations have gone up from 188 on Sunday and today's total is the highest number of people in hospital since mid-February.
Of those hospitalised, 143 people are fully vaccinated, 44 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 22 have an unknown vaccination status.
SA Health said latest genome sampling had found about 60 per cent of samples taken were the BA.2 subvariant.
There are now 35,367 active cases in the state.
Yesterday, 13,337 people received a PCR test in the state, which is a 5 per cent increase on the previous 24 hours.
Of the test results returned yesterday, 2,821 were positive, while 1,774 positive rapid antigen test results were reported.
SA Pathology director steps down
Associate Professor Tom Dodd, who has been SA Pathology's clinical service director for the past three years, is stepping down from the role.
SA Health said Professor Dodd would continue to act in a key advisory role as the state continued to manage the COVID pandemic.
"SA Pathology has been front and centre of the state's world-class response to the pandemic, developing new and innovative ways to deliver COVID-19 testing to all South Australians," Professor Dodd said.
"I also remain immensely proud of our research which continues to make breakthroughs and change lives right around the globe.
"I leave this role in the hands of a very capable and talented team which will continue to provide the best possible service to the people of South Australia."
An expression of interest to replace Professor Dodd will be released shortly.
Dr Ivan Bastian will act in the position in the interim.
