Daily COVID-19 infections in the ACT have jumped after four days of cases under 1000.
The ACT reported 1149 new infections to 8pm on Tuesday, a jump of 231 cases compared with the previous day. A total of 918 new cases were reported on Tuesday. This takes the territory's pandemic case tally to 82,940.
This comes after ACT Health reported the death of a woman in her 90s with COVID-19 on Tuesday. The death toll for the territory since the pandemic began is at 43.
A man in his 80s from Queanbeyan-Palerang LGA died with COVID over the weekend.
There were 42 people in Canberra hospitals with COVID in the 24 hours to 8pm Tuesday, including four people in intensive care and two under ventilation. Previously, the ACT had 41 people in hospital with five in intensive care and two ventilated.
The ACT now has 5491 active cases of coronavirus, up from the 5471 reported on Tuesday. Of the new cases, 642 were reported through PCR tests and 507 via rapid tests.
Data published by ACT Health shows the number of new daily infections per age group:
- 0 - 4: 69 (6%)
- 5 - 11: 80 (7%)
- 12 - 17: 94 (8%)
- 18 - 24: 155 (13%)
- 25 - 39: 380 (33%)
- 40 - 49: 183 (16%)
- 50- 64: 125 (11%)
- 65+: 63 (5%)
Fourth doses available for vulnerable groups
The first dose vaccination rate for children aged five to 11 is at 80.4 per cent.
Meanwhile, fully vaccinated people aged over five make up 96.3 per cent of the ACT population. The percentages have decreased from 98.7 per cent due to a revision in ACT Health's population estimate. The proportion of people triple vaxxed rose to 73.8 per cent.
This comes as second boosters become available for vulnerable people across the capital. Eligible groups include: those 65 and older, Indigenous Australians aged at least 50, disability-care residents and the immunocompromised.

NSW has recorded 24,151 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths in the 24 hours to 4pm.
On Tuesday, the state reported 19,183 new infections and 12 lives lost.
There are 1444 COVID-19 patients in hospital, with 51 in ICU.
Hospitalisation numbers are down on yesterday, when 1467 patients were being cared for with 56 in ICU.
Of the new cases, 13,957 came from positive rapid antigen tests while 10,194 came from PCR testing.
Meanwhile, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard is isolating after testing positive for COVID-19 as virus cases surge across the state.
Mr Hazzard was advised on Tuesday night that a work colleague's rapid antigen test (RAT) had returned a positive result.
The minister undertook an RAT, which was negative, but he then returned a positive PCR test.
Mr Hazzard, who is fully vaccinated, is in isolation after developing minor flu-like symptoms.
Victoria has recorded 12,150 new infections in the previous reporting period and three deaths.
There were a total of 331 cases in hospital with 11 in intensive care.
