Number of Americans who believe Trump is too old to run for office is growing, poll shows

CNN journalist Harry Enten broke down voter's perception around Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris' ages in a new report, detailing how the former's age is increasingly becoming a political liability, especially following President Joe Biden's decision to drop out.

As Enten went over the report, he pointed out that age was typically in favor of Trump when his opponent in the presidential race was Biden. However, that has changed since Biden dropped out and Harris took his place in the race.

In May, 78% of voters said Biden was too old to be the president compared to 53% who said the same thing about Trump.

"Now the age issue is working against Donald Trump. Why? Because Kamala Harris is now the Democratic nominee," Enten explained.

Currently, only 11% of voters think Harris is too old to be president. As for Trump, that number has gone up to 58% – an increase of 5% over the past months.

"Now that's up a little bit from May when it was 53%, but that 53% compared to 78% looked good," Enten said. "But now that 58% compared to the 11% for Kamala Harris – very bad news for Donald Trump."

Enten went on to discuss how this poll was less about age and more about the change that it could bring in.

"Age is also a stand-in for change and this is a change election,"Enten said.

Another graph was presented that showed 66% of voters in the key battleground states (Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin) believe that current political and economic systems in the U.S. need major change.

"So the key nugget in this campaign is to be the candidate of change. If you are the candidate of change you will win,"Enten concluded.
