NUFC fan forced to get interesting tattoo after betting Ayoze Perez would NEVER score a hat-trick

It was a bet Gary Bell never thought he'd lose.

Unimpressed by the performance of Spanish midfielder Ayoze Perez, he scoffed to his pals: "If that guy ever scores a hat trick for Newcastle, I'll get a tattoo of him."

Gary, who says he was "never Perez's biggest fan" admits he felt confident making the claim near the start of this season.

"I said it thinking, I'll absolutely never get that tattoo," he said.

But, of course, the 49-year-old, from Blackhall, County Durham, was forced to eat his words last month, when Perez hit home that final goal with just four minutes left to go at home against Southampton.

In that moment, Perez made his mark on Magpies' history - becoming the first NUFC player to net a hat trick since Gini Wijnaldum in 2015 - as well as on Gary's skin.

The pals with whom Gary travels to every away game, who heard his bold bet, clubbed together to fund the £90 ink - but they didn't really believe he would go through with it. It shows the palyer

Gary said: "I said I would get it done, so I got it done.  The lads were over the moon, because they didn't think I would really do it. I sent it to our Whatsapp group this morning and they had a good laugh.

"It could be worse, his form has been really good over the last few months, and it's on my thigh so I can cover it up. But it will be a bit weird if he does leave in the next couple of months."

It's not the superfan's first NUFC tattoo. He's already adorned with an image of Bobby Robson and a Toon crest, and has other ink including the names of his kids.

And although this tattoo doesn't mean quite as much as the one he'd been planning to get, of his NUFC hero Kevin Keegan, he says the triumphant hat-trick feels worth remembering.

Gary, who has been going to games at St James' Park since he was nine, and now takes his own kids and step-kids to games, said the memorable game was "great" and he's happy to commemorate it.

Why Ayoze Perez being left out of Spain squad could affect his Newcastle United future
