National Transportation Safety Board member Todd Inman revealed on Friday that the agency has located the black boxes from the Army Black Hawk helicopter involved in the tragic midair collision.
Inman stated, 'We know where they're at right now. We've got to get the rest of the victims out.' He explained that the black boxes have not yet been retrieved as efforts are focused on recovering bodies from the Potomac River.
Describing the families of the victims arriving in Washington, D.C., Inman expressed that they are 'shellshocked.' He emphasized the agency's commitment to providing information and support to the families during this difficult time.
'We have a duty to try to provide as much information to them as long as they need it. Right now, of course, their biggest concern is their family members and the identification of those bodies,' Inman said. He mentioned that the medical examiner from D.C. was present to outline the identification process, with notifications expected to commence in the coming days.
Inman assured that efforts are underway to facilitate the repatriation of the victims to their families. The NTSB continues to work diligently to investigate the incident and provide assistance to those affected by the tragic collision.
