A senior hazmat investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board recently examined a cargo ship's manifest and identified a concerning discovery. The investigator revealed that there were a total of 56 containers on board carrying hazardous materials. This amounted to a staggering 764 tons of hazardous substances, including corrosives, flammables, and various other dangerous materials.
Of particular concern were the class nine hazardous materials found in the containers, which notably included lithium ion batteries. The presence of such materials raised significant safety issues and prompted immediate attention from authorities.
During the investigation, it was determined that some of the hazmat containers had been breached. This breach led to the release of hazardous substances into the surrounding environment, causing further complications. Additionally, a sheen was observed on the waterway, indicating potential contamination and environmental impact.
