NTAs viewers convinced audience booed Holly and Phil as they celebrated This Morning award win

NTAs viewers were convinced that Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were booed by the crowd as they went on stage to collect their award.

While it was not really audible on TV, reports from the audience in Wembley's OVO Arena and some fans at home have suggested that the presenters weren't given a very warm welcome on stage, writes The Mirror.

ITV show This Morning won an NTA for Best Daytime Show for the fifth year in a row despite the Queue-gate drama last month. Addressing the crowd after making it up to the stage, Phil said that they "don't ever feel like [they] get complacent" over their NTAs wins. While Holly told viewers at home: "Thank you so much for everything... You make our show for us, you really do."

But some viewers were convinced that Holly and Phil had been booed on stage and looked awkward before putting Alison Hammond in front of the mic. One audience goer tweeted: "#ThisMorning got a LOT of boos. Don't let itv fool you! #NTAs #NTAs2022."

They added: "Holly and Phil noticed too and looked awkward. They put Alison forward to the mic and everyone went crazy. She's getting the best reception #NTAs #NTAs2022."

A viewer replied: "Thank you lots watching are saying it was a mixed response or we thought the audio was cut, many unsure. You are there thanks for clearing it up!" "There were cheers but there was booing too and they looked a bit put out tbh," they replied.

While another commented: "Was that a few boos for Phil and Holly? #NTAs2022."Earlier, host Holly walked down the red carpet alone, with Phil later making an appearance with daughter Molly.

It comes after a tough few weeks for Holly and Phil after the pair were falsely accused of jumping the queue to see the Queen lying-in-state. Holly and Phil released a pre-recorded statement on This Morning the following Tuesday insisting they would 'never jump a queue' and explained they had media accreditation.

Despite that, public anger continued to mount and a petition calling for them to be sacked from ITV has reached over 76,000 signatures. The hosts were said to be keen to attend tonight's awards, but bosses were believed to be worried that they could be subjected to booing crowds.

It came after Holly and Phil were subjected to a torrent of online abuse after the accusations of queue-jumping, prompting "serious concerns" about their well-being.
