A woman has been arrested following a fatal brawl in Darwin overnight which left one woman dead and another seriously injured.
A 28-year-old woman and a 33-year-old were rushed to hospital on Tuesday night after sustaining lacerations during an alleged group altercation on Mitchell Street near the intersection of Nuttall Place at about 8:20pm.
The younger woman later died while receiving care at the Royal Darwin Hospital while the other woman remains in a stable condition.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said a 31-year-old woman was in custody assisting police with inquiries.
"Investigations are in their early stages as detectives work to understand the circumstances of the assault."
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to make contact on 131 444.
