NT Police investigating fatal hit and run near Timber Creek, diversions in place on Victoria Highway

NT Police say a 19-year-old has died following reports of a hit and run near Timber Creek around 4.30am this morning.

In a statement, police said they received reports a man had been "struck by a vehicle" on the Victoria Highway, about 30 kilometres west of the town, Timber Creek.

Police declared the teenager dead at the scene, however said the vehicle and driver were still "unknown".

Detective Senior Sergeant Corey Borton called on the driver to come forward.

"Major crash are in the early stages of our investigation and we would urge the driver of the vehicle to make themselves known to police," he said.

"The exact circumstances around what happened remain unknown.

"Any motorists who were travelling in the area in the early hours of this morning are urged to contact police on 131 444."

Timber Creek, roughly 600km south of Darwin, is home to about 250 people.

There are diversions along the Victoria Highway as major crash detectives investigate.
