NT Police investigating alleged sexual assault of disabled woman in Braitling, Alice Springs

NT Police say they take "allegations of this nature very seriously".  (ABC News: Hamish Harty)

Police are investigating the alleged daylight sexual assault of a disabled woman in Alice Springs on Saturday.

The alleged assault occurred near a laneway off Knuckey Avenue, between Hearne Place and Babbage Street, in the suburb of Braitling between 2pm and 3.30pm.

Police are calling for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area at the time — or anyone who has CCTV footage that could assist with the investigation — to contact them.

The alleged perpetrator was unknown to the victim.

Detectives from the Regional Crime Division are leading the investigation and are following several lines of inquiry, according to NT Police.

Officers are also conducting a forensic examination of the scene and speaking with potential witnesses.

"Northern Territory Police are committed to ensuring the safety of all community members and take allegations of this nature very seriously," they said in a statement.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact police on 131 444.
