Police say a firearm has been found at a house where two adults and a baby were found dead at an outstation in Central Australia on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, police said officers had received a report at about 2:30pm that several bodies had been found at a property about 25 kilometres north of Alice Springs.
On Monday afternoon, police confirmed three bodies, a 41-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and an infant, were found dead at a house in the small community.
NT Police initially reported that the woman's age was 40, rather than 30.
"Police located a firearm at the scene and we are treating this as a domestic violence incident," NT Police Acting Commander Mark Grieve said.
"There are no ongoing safety concerns for the community as a result of this incident.
"This was an horrific event, and our hearts go out to the family and community members affected by this tragedy."
Acting Commander Grieve said crime command detectives were investigating the incident and that Aboriginal Liaison Officers were providing "integral community engagement and support to those involved".
"We are also offering support to first responders and investigators involved.
"The investigation is ongoing, [and] we have to ensure the [regional] crime members are able to run the course and do a thorough, complete investigation in order to determine the circumstances around this tragic incident," he said.
