NT Police charge woman, 31, with murder over stabbing death on Darwin's nightlife strip

Northern Territory police have charged a woman over the stabbing death of a 28-year-old woman on Darwin's nightlife strip on Tuesday night.

Edwina Lewis, 31, appeared in Darwin Local Court this morning, charged with murder and intention to cause serious harm in relation to the alleged assault.

She did not apply for bail.

In a statement, NT Police alleged a fight occurred shortly before 8:20pm on Tuesday, with police receiving reports that a woman, 28, had collapsed on Mitchell Street in the Darwin CBD, near Shadforth Lane.

Police said she was found with multiple stab wounds from a knife, and died at Royal Darwin Hospital soon after.

Another woman, 33, was also taken to hospital with stab wounds, but her injuries were not life threatening.

It is believed the 33-year-old has now been discharged.

Ms Lewis was arrested shortly after the incident.

She is due to reappear in court on February 9.
