A man has been arrested after two women were hit by a car while crossing a road in Palmerston, near Darwin, in what police have described as an alleged domestic violence attack.
Officers say the women were walking through a pedestrian crossing near the Palmerston bus exchange when the car accelerated towards them at about 3pm on Friday.
Both women were reportedly struck in the legs after the car mounted the kerb.
Police say the 37-year-old male driver fled the scene but was arrested some time later.
Both women received minor injuries, as did the driver of a parked car that police say was also hit during the incident.
It's alleged one of the women is known to the man.
Detectives from the domestic and family violence unit have charged the man with intending to cause serious harm, recklessly endangering serious harm and dangerous driving.
He is due to face Darwin Local Court on Monday.
NT Police Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Vanessa Barton said witnesses at the scene had provided information to police.
"The [alleged] actions of this driver are completely reprehensible and it was incredibly lucky that these two women were not more seriously injured," she said.
