A man accused of murder over the fatal shooting of an alleged intruder at a remote Northern Territory home has faced court.

Kim Jamie Keith Kellett, 38, is accused of killing the 26-year-old Indigenous man on March 17 near the Cutta Cutta Caves, 30km southeast of Katherine.

His lawyer, Peter Maley, on Wednesday told the NT Local Court in Darwin he'd been working hard on his client's legal case with the Crown.

"It's very close to complete resolution. We're now working on a final set of agreed facts, which will resolve the matter," he said.

Kellett, who was home with his wife and two children when the alleged intruder entered, was supported in court by a large contingent of family and friends.

Officers were called to Kellett's home about 4am, with senior police later saying it was a confronting scene and the man had died from a gunshot wound.

Kellet is also charged with manslaughter.

He remains in custody with his case adjourned to June 15 when it will be transferred to the NT Supreme Court.
