Images of three men, one woman released after argument
Police are asking for help to identify four people allegedly involved in an armed road rage incident in Liverpool on Sunday.
Witnesses who saw the altercation near Mill Road and Charles Street just before 3pm, told police three men and a woman were fighting near a white Toyota Corolla and a grey Suzuki Baleno, that were both stopped in the street.
A male passenger from the Toyota allegedly pulled out a gun, before it was taken from him during the fight by a male passenger of the Suzuki.
Investigations revealed the Suzuki was a hire car, which was left at a hotel on Hoxton Park Road, Prestons.
Liverpool detectives have released details of each person who could assist with their inquiries:
- a man with a partly shaved head wearing a blue basketball singlet, dark pants and light-coloured sneakers
- another man wearing a yellow-coloured T-shirt with light pants and black sneakers
- another man wearing a white, hooded jumper with shorts and white shoes
- a woman having long brown hair and wearing a light-coloured jumper, white long pants and white sneakers.
Residents urged to get third vaccine
New South Wales residents are being urged to get their third COVID-19 vaccine, with the state lagging behind most of the country.
Western Australia has the highest rate, with 83 per cent of eligible people receiving their third shot.
In New South Wales, around 68 per cent of eligible people have received their booster, with Queensland at 63 per cent.
NSW Australian Medical Association president Doctor Michael Bonning says it's been a hard few months for people waiting to be well enough for a booster.
Corruption inquiry into councillors
A corruption inquiry in Sydney today will examine allegations local councillors in Sydney's south accepted bribes for planning decisions.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption is investigating the conduct of former Georges River and Hurstville councillors Constantine Hindi, Vince Badalati, and Philip Sansom.
Between 2014 and 2021, the councillors have been accused of seeking or accepting inducements or rewards for dishonestly exercising their official functions in relation to planning matters.
The commission is also examining if they deliberately failed to declare conflicts of interest.
Man charged with fatal stabbing overnight
A man will face court today, charged with murdering a woman at a home in Sydney's south-west overnight.
Police say the man, 58, attended Wetherill Park Police Station at 9.05pm where he was placed under arrest.
The body of a woman, 62, with stab wounds was found at Christie St, Prairiewood, a short time later.
Police say the woman and man were not in a relationship but were known to each other.
The man is in custody and is due to appear at Fairfield Local Court today, charged with murder.
Robert Hughes set to be paroled
Convicted paedophile and former Hey Dad! actor Robert Hughes could be deported to the United Kingdom today.
Hughes has spent eight years in prison after being found guilty at trial of indecent and sexual assault offences, and was granted parole last month.
The 73-year-old renounced his Australian citizenship in 2019, meaning he will be deported once he's released.
A NSW Corrective Services spokesman says today is his first available release date, after he was granted parole earlier this month.
He says the matter is now in the hands of the Australian Border Force (ABF).
Hughes has been in prison since 2014, after he was found guilty of 10 sexual and indecent assault offences committed between 1984 and 1990 that involved four children.
The ABF says it does not comment on operational matters.
Concerns over reserve power shortages
There are concerns that New South Wales could face some reserve power shortages, following a similar incident in Queensland.
The Australian Energy Market Operator has issued a statement, saying wholesale price rises triggered a price cap in NSW late last night.
Generators have been asked to make more electricity.
A spokesman for the market operator says New South Wales has more electricity reserves than Queensland today.
Meanwhile, a gas crisis has hit Australia's eastern states in recent weeks, with high prices affecting businesses.
