NSW Police have released footage of a man they believe can assist them amid an ongoing investigation into offensive graffiti in Sydney’s Inner West.
On Tuesday, multiple hate symbols and homophobic slurs were spotted on a number of political posters in Newtown, Enmore, and Erskineville.
Police believe some 27 political posters, two structures in Newtown and a sign outside a hotel on Erskineville Road were vandalised with offensive symbols and words between 1.30am to 2am on Tuesday.
Some of the posters have been forensically examined while the sites are being treated as active crime scenes.

Designer, Katie Louise Nicolford posted a warning on her Instagram story to alert the community:
“A heads up to my Inner West loves. There are multiple hate symbols and homophobic slurs around the streets of Newtown this morning. All sites are being treated as active crime scenes so will not yet be removed (!!!!!) Please be aware, alert and let your friends know so they are prepared. Stay safe and look after each other.”
The message quickly spread, with many residents sharing it to make sure friends and neighbours were aware and able to look out for each other.

As inquiries continue, police have released images of a man seen in the vicinity of Erskineville Road who they believe may be able to assist.
He has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his early to mid-20s, about 180cm tall, of medium build and with mid-length brown hair. In the footage, he is seen wearing a black hoodie, black shorts and black thongs at the time.

Police are urging anyone who might have information, CCTV, or mobile footage to come forward and contact Newtown Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
