NSW Police Identify Woman Whose Body Was Found In Plastic & Launch Urgent Search For Her Husband

NSW Police are investigating whether a third party may have been involved in the death of a woman whose body was found wrapped in plastic in Sydney’s Botany last week.

On December 9, the body of Zhuojun ‘Sally’ Li, 33, was found in bushland near Sydney airport after she was reported missing by her mother earlier this month.

Li’s death is being treated as a homicide.

As police continue to investigate the death of Li, authorities have also launched an urgent search for her husband Jai-Bao ‘Rex’ Chen, also 33, stating that “they hold grave concerns for his welfare”.

Per 9News, Homicide Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said investigators were unsure if Chen is dead or alive.

“Truth be told… we’re not sure whether Rex is alive or dead,” Doherty said.

“It’s a question mark on whether he’s a person of interest or a victim, we still don’t know.”

Alongside the police’s search for Chen, Doherty also said investigators are looking into the “possibility of a third party”, following CCTV of a car.

Footage of a silver Toyota Avensis stopping at the north side of Foreshore Road in Botany during the early hours of Saturday, November 30, 2024, has become a subject of interest in authorities’ inquiries into Li’s death.

Police say the car is not registered to Li or Chen, which could suggest that a third party could be involved in the incident.

“We have to keep an open mind, and when we do that we look at the possibility of a third party,” Doherty shared.

“Not only in the suspected murder of Sally, but we also have to look at a third party being involved in the disappearance of Rex as well.”

Investigators have since released images of the car, urging anyone with information regarding the vehicle to contact authorities.

Neither Li nor Chen have been seen alive since November. It is believed that the couple lived in Greeacre and that the couple shared no links to any organised crime nor had a history of any domestic violence, 9News reports.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
