NSW man pleads guilty to murder of Canberra man Glenn Walewicz in Phillip last year

One of the five people arrested over the shooting death of Canberra man Glenn Walewicz has today pleaded guilty to murder for his part in the crime.

Gary Taylor, 24, was extradited to the ACT from Barradine in New South Wales after he was tracked down by police.

He made a brief appearance in the ACT Magistrates Court today where he made the guilty plea.

An additional charge of aggravated burglary was dropped, as he admitted to his role in Mr Walewicz's death.

Mr Walewicz was shot at his front door in the Canberra suburb of Phillip in June last year, as several people allegedly tried to get into his home.

Police took a year to make the first arrest, after scouring hours of footage from nearby CCTV cameras, and even a camera on a bus, to work out who had been involved.

Several other people are in custody, including a 17-year-old charged with murder.

Charges against a boy who was 12 at the time were discontinued last month.

Taylor has been committed for sentence in the ACT Supreme Court, where he will appear next month.

Others facing charges for their alleged involvement are expected to return to court later in the year.
