The NSW state coroner has today announced that it will be launching an inquiry into the deaths of seven people at Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction earlier this year.
As reported by The Australian, a directions hearing will take place on Tuesday, November 12 at 9.30am, with NSW coroner Magistrate Teresa O’Sullivan leading the charge.
The inquest aims to determine exactly what occurred at Westfield Shopping Centre in Bondi Junction on Sunday April 13 2024 where six people lost their lives at the hands of Joel Cauchi, who was eventually shot dead by NSW Police Officer Amy Scott.
At 3.20pm, Cauchi entered the popular shopping centre armed with a knife and began stabbing people at random.
The six victims were named as Yixuan Cheng (27), Pikria Darchia (55), Faraz Tahir (30), Jade Young (47), Ashlee Good (38) and Dawn Singleton (25).

Eight people were taken to hospital after the attack, including a nine-month-old baby who ultimately survived. Her mother, 38-year-old Ashley Good, is one of the victims who died in hospital.
After 40-year-old Joel Cauchi was revealed as the attacker, his family shared a statement regarding his actions, and expressed their condolences to all the victims.
“We are absolutely devastated by the traumatic events that occurred in Sydney yesterday,” the statement, obtained by Queensland Police began.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims and those still undergoing treatment at this time.
“Joel’s actions were truly horrific, and we are still trying to comprehend what has happened. He has battled with mental health issues since he was a teenager.
“We are in contact with both the New South Wales Police Force and Queensland Police Service and have no issues with the police officer who shot our son as she was only doing her job to protect others and we hope she is coping alright.”
The inquest will hopefully bring some form of closure to the families of the victims.
