NRL star ends sister's boyfriend's season with dangerous tackle in friendly

An NRL star is in hot water with both the authorities and his family - after his dangerous tackle saw his sister's boyfriend be ruled out for the entirety of the upcoming season.

St George Illawarra Dragons' Tyrell Fuimaono is facing a lengthy suspension after his tackle on Haze Dunster saw the Parramatta Eels flier rupture his anterior, posterior and medial cruciate ligaments.

And in an unusual twist - it transpires Dunster has been dating Fuimaono's sister Taliah, who also plays rugby league for St George's NRLW side, for the last six years.

In the pre-season clash, Fuimaono's ugly hip-drop tackle left Dunster in a heap on the deck, and the aggressor has been hit with a grade-three dangerous contact charge by the match review committee after being sin-binned.

It means he will be banned for five matches should he submit an early guilty plea, or up to seven games should he choose to contest the charge at the judiciary.

Parramatta confirmed Dunster would undergo surgery in the coming days prior to 'an extended rehabilitation program'.

It is the second hip-drop tackle Fuimaono has been charged with after a similar incident involving Dane Gagai, then with South Sydney Rabbithohs, towards the end of last season.

Fuimaono also found himself in hot water after a high shot on Ryan Papenhuyzen during the NRL Magic Round left the Melbourne Storm full-back heavily concussed.

Dragons coach Anthony Griffin told the Sydney Morning Herald: "It’s a shame for both boys, they’re very good mates and the boy he tackled goes out with Tyrell’s sister. He’s shattered for him.

“Unfortunately he’s got himself into a bad position. Nobody practices that, and we don’t coach it - it’s just the way it has turned out for him. He has to get that out of his game.

“He’s got himself into a couple of bad positions now. He’s a really good person and never intends for those things to happen. It’s unfortunate for everyone.”
