NRL approves Nawaqanitawase's early Roosters arrival

The NRL has cleared the way for Wallabies winger Mark Nawaqanitawase to arrive at the Sydney Roosters in August, registering a last-minute deal for 2024.

The Roosters confirmed on Tuesday Nawaqanitawase would take the 30th spot on their roster for this year, joining the club after the Paris Olympics.

It comes after late paperwork was lodged with the NRL on Monday, only hours before the mid-season signing window closed at 5pm.

The NRL then told the Roosters on Tuesday the contract had been approved, allowing him to head to Bondi once released by Rugby Australia.

As per all men's NRL deals, Nawaqanitawase will not be able to play sevens while locked into an NRL contract.

"We're really pleased to be in a position to have Mark join us once his commitments in Paris are over," Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.

"While Mark will be taking the final spot in our roster for 2024, our focus won't be on rushing him into the NRL, but about fast-tracking his transition into rugby league.

"We're looking forward to officially welcoming Mark to the Roosters next month and we wish him all the very best in his representative duties at the Olympics."
