The 2024 campaign has been the least successful yet for Novak Djokovic, with the fewest titles won in any season of his career.
Novak Djokovic Set For Record Low Number Of Titles
The Serbian tennis star is set to drop down the world rankings following his removal from the ATP finals through injury.
In 2023, Djokovic had a super year by winning three Grand Slams and ending the year as the World No.1 – but he has not won a major title in a season and could drop out of the top five for the first time since 2017.
This also ends an 18-year streak of winning at least two major titles per year.
Moreover, Djokovic could fall to as low as ninth in the next ordering which would be his lowest ranking since 2006 and highlights an obvious decline.
During the course of his career, the Serbian has established himself as one of the best players of all time and has won a record 24 Grand Slam titles along the way.
As things stand, the 37-year-old sits in fifth on the ATP rankings following a stricter schedule, in fact his last appearance came in October at the Saudi Arabian King Slams event.
A recent injury means that Djokovic will be unable to compete at the ATP finals event in Turin, Italy which takes place later this month.
The Serbian took to social media to say: “I was really looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury I won’t be playing next week.
“Apologies to those who were planning to see me. Wishing all the players a great tournament. See you soon!”
This dip in form and drop down the rankings may not be a huge concern for Djokovic, as he claimed that rankings are not his main focus anymore.
He said: “The ATP Finals and being at the top of the rankings are no longer objectives for me.
“I do not know if I will play the Finals this year or next, but right now, what I need the most is physical, mental, and emotional rest to decide what comes next in my career, how much more I want to play, and where.”
