Novak Djokovic gets the defence of his French Open title underway against Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka at Roland Garros.
After a frustrating year both on and off the court, few would have expected Djokovic to arrive in Paris as the favourite, particularly after Rafael Nadal’s success in Melbourne earlier in the season.
But the world number one has played himself into form and looked incredibly impressive a week ago as he stormed to the Italian Open title without dropping a set.
A potential quarter-final clash against Nadal looms in the distance, though that will not be the focus for Djokovic yet as he looks to make his way through the opening rounds.
First up is Nishioka, ranked 94th in the world. The 26-year-old has had an incredibly poor clay-court season up to this point, and has never made it past the second round of the French Open.
Date, venue and UK start time
The first-round match between Novak Djokovic and Yoshihito Nishioka will take place on Monday, May 23.
It’s an evening match for the two of them, scheduled to get underway at approximately 7:45pm BST.
Alex Molcan or Federico Coria await the winner in the second round.
