Nova Scotia RCMP investigate shots fired at fishing boat last month

MARTINIQUE, N.S. — Police in Nova Scotia are asking the public for information as they continue to investigate a report of shots fired at a fishing boat near Martinique on Cape Breton Island.

The RCMP says they received a complaint of the incident on Dec. 8 and learned the vessel was near Lennox Passage Provincial Park at the time of the shooting.

They say four shots were fired from land toward the boat, landing in the water just off the vessel's bow.

Cpl. Chris Marshall says the RCMP did not publicize the shooting earlier because they believe it was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the general public.

No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
