Notts County player ratings vs Wealdstone as Magpies hit six to extend unbeaten run

Notts County made it six consecutive National League wins by scoring six goals as they thrashed Wealdstone at Grosvenor Vale.

It was a mad opening half an hour, with goals from Macaulay Langstaff, Matty Palmer and an Adam Chicksen double had the Magpies cruising at the break.

But the scoring did not end there, with Luke Williams' side continuing where they left off in the opening 45, with Aaron Nemane making it five in just under a minute, and Geraldo Bajrami bundling home Notts' sixth ten minutes into the second half.

But the hosts did find the back of the net, with Micah Obiero firing beyond the reach of Sam Slocombe before Richard Brindley saw red shortly after for a second bookable offence, leaving the Magpies with ten-men for the remaining 20 minutes.

The result sees the Magpies remain top of the National League with a three-point lead, with Torquay the visitors to Meadow Lane on Saturday afternoon.

With the Magpies having to wait until the 44th minute for the opener against Maidstone, it took Langstaff just three to find the back of the Wealdstone net. Ruben Rodrigues' inch-perfect pass fell right into the feet of the Notts number nine who took a touch before curling home his 17th goal of the season.

The home side thought they had restored parity when Mason Barrett nodded home Giovanni McGregor's free kick, only to be denied by the linesman's flag.

But Notts continued to dominate and like we saw against Wrexham, a clever free-kick caught the hosts napping, with Rodrigues' disguised pass finding Chicksen in space who rifled the ball in off the post to double the visitors' lead.

And the game was seemingly out of sight just before the half-hour mark, with another excellent Notts attack ending in Palmer smashing the ball home inside the area for his first of the season. A goal his performances of late have deserved.

After scoring just three goals in the entirety of his Magpies career, Chicksen grabbed his second of the evening and his fifth of the season, executing a similar finish, only this time finding the roof of the net that stunned the home crowd into silence.

But if you thought the opening goal was quick, then the Magpies' fifth of the evening was electric, this time Nemane drove from deep before sending a left-footed effort beyond the Wealdstone 'keeper with the aid of a deflection.

And the Magpies continued to be ruthless in front of goal, with Bajrami getting on the end of a brilliant Nemane cross to bundle home Notts' sixth goal as they had all-but sealed a sixth consecutive league win.

Despite their comfortable score-line, Obiero reduced the arrears just after the hour-mark, and matters were made worse when Brindley saw red for a second bookable offence after pulling back a Wealdstone attacker, but ultimately, the game was won prior to that decision.

Following the emphatic win at Grosvenor Vale, here is how we rated the Magpies players.

Sam Slocombe - 7

Was brilliant with his positioning all evening and was unlucky not to preserve a seventh clean sheet of the season, but there was nothing he could do about Obiero's strike.

Kyle Cameron - 7

Calm and composed on the ball and was keen to drive forward from defence. Offered an outlet in forward positions and had a number of chances from outside the box.

Connell Rawlinson - 8

Was the pick of the defenders at Grosvenor Vale. Was assured and composed with his passing and was rarely troubled by Olufela Olomola, whose name was rarely mentioned all evening.

Richard Brindley - 6

A night to forget for one of Notts' most consistent performers. Can feel unlucky with his first caution, but can have no questions about his second, caught out after losing possession in a dangerous area.

Adam Chicksen - 9

What a performance. The full-back has become a different player this season by adding a continuous threat when going forward. His two goals were brilliant strikes, and he did not neglect his defensive responsibilities and produced a brilliant all-round performance.

Aaron Nemane - 8

A continuous threat throughout the evening, getting into some brilliant areas and providing that pace in the wide positions. Got at his immediate opponent and was rewarded with a goal, albeit with the help of a deflection.

Matty Palmer - 9

Finally grabbed the goal his performances have deserved in recent weeks. Battled well in midfield alongside Bajrami and kept the game ticking in midfield, often being the conductor and telling his team-mates where to pass to keep the intensity of the play high.

Geraldo Bajrami - 8

This man is a machine. Another battling midfield display from the Albanian, continually breaking up the Wealdstone attacks while keen to help when pushing forward, which was rewarded with a goal.

Ruben Rodrigues - 8

Influential every time Notts looked to go forward. Showed precision for Langstaff's first, creativity for the second goal, and produced a hard-working display when his side were out of possession.

Cedwyn Scott - 7

Worked hard all evening and kept possession well. Often starved of clear-cut chances but his influence on the game was important, often the catalyst for starting the Notts attacks.

Macaulay Langstaff - 8

A determined display from the Notts number nine. Produced an excellent finish for his 17th goal of the season, taking the ball extremely well before firing beyond Howes. Could have had a hat-trick!

SUBS:

Toby Adebayo-Rowling - 7

Instant impact when coming on. Continually looked to play forward and was determined in his work to win the ball back.

Sam Austin - 7

Involved in a lot of the action when coming on. Was keen to link up with Langstaff throughout.

Aden Baldwin - 6

Defensive change following Brindley's sending off. Fantastic to see him back following his injury.
