Notts County owner names three reasons Luke Williams was appointed as head coach

Notts County owner Christoffer Reedtz has said there were three main reasons why the club chose to appoint Luke Williams as head coach.

The Magpies confirmed the arrival of the former Swindon Town boss on Tuesday afternoon as they look to make it fourth time lucky in returning to the Football League. The search for a new head coach started after the departure of Ian Burchnall for Forest Green Rovers last month.

As well as being in charge of Swindon, Williams has also worked in the youth teams at Brighton and Hove Albion and Bristol City. He was most recently Russell Martin’s assistant manager at both MK Dons and Swansea City.

Reedtz, who owns the club with brother Alexander, explained what made the new head coach stand out. “First of all, we’re really pleased that Luke has joined us,” he said.

“In this process we’ve gone through a few things that really stood out for us. Firstly, he has a really strong coaching background, he’s been at some really good clubs, in the Championship most recently with Swansea, and we feel that is something that will be useful to help Notts County progress.

“And then we think that Luke has got a real strong football mind. That is something that we were really impressed by, not just the way he likes his team to play but also the way he sees the game and his analytical approach to constantly trying to improve understanding the most complex areas of the game.

“And finally, we think that on a personal level we’ve got a really good impression of Luke. We want him to be involved in the club, we really believe in him and we’re looking forward to working together with Luke, so yeah, we strongly believe in Luke as the best coach.”
