According to reports, Notts County have made a contract offer to Derby County forward David McGoldrick, with his current deal with the Rams set to expire. McGoldrick impressed for Derby last season after signing from Sheffield United as a free agent last summer.
He netted 25 goals in 45 appearances, including three hat-tricks, and notched seven assists, making it a personal success for the Republic of Ireland international forward despite the Rams not making it into the League One play-offs.
The former Republic of Ireland international started his professional career with the Magpies and is said to be a fan of the club, and now Football League World have reported that Notts have put an offer on the table for the 35-year-old forward to consider.
After securing promotion from the National League and a return to the EFL, Luke Williams will now be looking to bolster his side with Football League experience, of which McGoldrick has plenty, having made more than 300 appearances in the Championship alone and a further 100 in League One and Two.
Derby will want to keep the player at the club after the season he just had, but securing his services would represent a statement of intent from County with them being one of the bookies’ early favourites for another promotion in their first season back in the EFL.
It seems to be a straight fight between them and Derby for McGoldrick’s signature this summer, and while Derby are playing in a division higher with their own promotion ambitions, the romanticist in the forward may push him to make a surprise return to Meadow Lane after 18 years away.
