Notts County confirm striker departure amid latest transfer update

Notts County has confirmed that striker Kairo Mitchell has joined fellow National League side Eastleigh on loan until the end of the season.

It has been a difficult season for the Magpies striker, with the 25-year-old making just one appearance in the league and limited to starts in both the FA Trophy and FA Cup.

The 25-year-old did enjoy a good start to life under Luke Williams, scoring twice in the opening five games of the season in their draw away to Boreham Wood and away win at Halifax Town during August.

But with the fine form of both Macaulay Langstaff and Cedwyn Scott firing Notts to the National League summit, it has been impossible for Mitchell to break into the starting line-up, with the pair netting 36 goals between them since joining from Gateshead in the summer.

It does leave the Magpies chief short of striking options ahead of another tough month of fixtures, with Williams hinting that more arrivals could be imminent following their win over Solihull Moors in midweek.

"We're close on one or two targets," Williams said when asked about players making the switch to Meadow Lane.

"There is close and getting over the line and those two things can be quite far apart in the end, but we are still looking and with no window, it is not pressing for us and we will continue to negotiate."

Mitchell joins Eastleigh, who currently sit in 10th, one point off the play-off places following their recent defeat to Barnet in midweek, with the player relishing the opportunity for more first-team minutes at the Silverlake Stadium.

Speaking to Eastleigh's official website, Mitchell said: “I’m delighted to join. For me, this season has been frustrating in terms of minutes and playing so I’m looking forward to trying to hit the ground running.

“For myself, I want to try and gain as much fitness and minutes as possible. I also want to try and help the team to make the playoffs this season and give the fans something to cheer about.”
