Notts County captain issues defiant title message ahead of crunch Chesterfield showdown

Kyle Cameron insists Notts County can still win the National League title but accepts March will be a pivotal month in their quest for promotion.

The Magpies are currently 12 points behind leaders Stockport in the table but do have two games in hand and also have to play Dave Challinor's side.

Notts are in decent form again after stretching their unbeaten run to five games and head into tomorrow's promotion showdown with Chesterfield on the back of a 2-0 win at Woking.

WIth 16 games left to play, skipper Cameron says Notts are still very much in with a shout of becoming champions in a thrilling promotion race.

"From ourselves to the top I think a lot of teams that can still win it and I still believe that we can do it," he said.

"We've got two games in hand, that leaves us six points behind Stockport then if we beat them, that's only three points.

"It's a one-game swing then. And if you look at the run-ins between us and Stockport, a lot of people would say we've got the easier run when we are sort of expected to probably win the last seven or eight, we hope.

"So, for me looking at that, I think we're still in with the shout.

"We just need to make sure we keep sort of picking up points as it's a massive month of playing everyone who is around us or above us.

"This March is going to be a pivotal month and we'll see where we're at following those games."

Victory at Chesterfield tomorrow night would certainly send out a statement of intent with the Spireites having lost grip of top spot in recent weeks.

Following James Rowe's departure, former Ipswich boss Paul Cook is back in charge for a second time and is tasked with reigniting their promotion push.

It is set up for a fascinating contest against the Spireites but Cameron feels the backroom changes at Chesterfield make it a good time to play them.

"This is probably the best time we could ask to go there.

"I think obviously they're in transition at the moment with the new manager.

"Obviously, he is trying to put his philosophy in place and his way of playing onto Chesterfield.

"They are in transition at the moment and we're kind of picking up in form.

"It will be it'll be a good game tomorrow and hopefully we can do the same as Saturday and have a good dominant away of performance and come up with a result."
