Notts County boss welcomes team selection headache following Eastleigh performance

Luke Williams insists he is welcoming a potential selection headache following Notts County's impressive 2-0 win away to Eastleigh on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of kick-off, the Magpies boss made four changes to the side that drew with Southend in midweek, with Tobi Adebayo-Rowling, Connell Rawlinson, Ed Francis and Sam Austin all coming into the starting line-up.

And one of those changes was instrumental in the opening goal, when Adebayo-Rowling was on hand to cross the ball for Adam Chicksen to head home his seventh goal of this remarkable campaign for the Zimbabwean.

The result was all-but-confirmed just after the 70 minute mark, with a neat interchange ending in Ruben Rodrigues stabbing the ball beyond Joe McDonnell to see the Magpies return to the summit of the table.

And speaking after the game, Williams explained his reasoning behind making four changes ahead of the fixture and expressing his delight at each of their performances.

"I felt like there was certain players that were building up fatigue and getting a little bit tired," explained Williams.

"They were tired mentally and physically, because the season has started to become congested, there were guys who have come in today who are working incredibly hard, and we demand that.

"They have earned that appearance today and I don't think any of them let us down at all today and every one of them who went in the team looked like they had been in the team all season."

With two long away trips complete and four points to show for their efforts, the Magpies return to Meadow Lane next week as 'Football for a Fiver' returns against Yeovil Town.

And with another tough game to come, Williams explained that some of the performances will give him a selection dilemma ahead of next week, but insisted it was a problem he was happy to have.

"Absolutely, this is where we want to be with everybody in contention," Williams said.

"What was amazing was the guys who were not on the pitch or in the starting line-up are completely involved in the game and completely with us.

"Guys travelled with us who were not in the squad, and they are with us and watching the game with intensity, wanting the team to do well.

"That is what we are going to need if we want to compete at the top of the league for the whole season."
