Notts County has announced the sudden death of its “much-loved” chief executive Jason Turner, who was aged 50.
The National League club said Mr Turner passed away suddenly last night (March 30). It said: “He was an outstanding CEO who was respected across football having also worked for Bath City, Newport County, Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City.”
A statement issued by the club on behalf of his mother, Jen, and father, David, said: “Words cannot describe our sadness following the loss of our beloved son, Jason.
“We know this feeling will be shared by all of his colleagues and his many, many friends.
“While we come to terms with this news, we ask for our family’s privacy to be respected.”
Mr Turner was appointed in 2016, when he was 43, having previously been club secretary at Cardiff, general manager at Plymouth and chief executive at Newport County.
In a statement, Plymouth Argyle said: “We are very sad to hear about the death of former general manager and club secretary Jason Turner.
“Jason, who worked for Argyle between 2011 and 2015, steadied the ship after our period in administration and helped to create the new foundations of our club that we are so very proud of today.
“Our thoughts are with Jason’s family and friends and everyone at Notts County at this incredibly sad time.”
Nottingham Forest tweeted: "The thoughts of everyone at Nottingham Forest are with Jason's family, friends and all at Notts County during this difficult time."
The National League said: "Devastating news. Everyone at The National League sends their thoughts and condolences to everyone who knew and loved Jason."
