Notts County have announced that Richard Brindley has signed a new contract with the club just days after Ian Burchnall quit as head coach to join Forest Green Rovers.
The defender was one of four players out of contract at the club but has wasted no time in securing his future at Meadow Lane after an impressive season.
Brindley has signed a two-year deal and becomes the first player to pen fresh terms with Kyle Wootton, Tiernan Brooks and Adam Chicksen having also been offered new deals.
A statement from Notts' board of directors reads: “As a club, we know how we want to play - and that requires individuals who are comfortable and brave on the ball and positive in their intent.
"We also want characters who embrace pressure and strive to improve on a daily basis. Richard has all those qualities and has developed hugely in his new position over the last year, so we’re thrilled to have him with us for at least the next two seasons.”
Brindley added: “People often ask me why I’m not playing in the EFL, but there aren’t many clubs who have what we’ve got. “Everything about the club is unique - the style of play, the fans, the history. I want to be in the EFL with this club. Nottingham has become my second home and I want to remain loyal. I hope we can push for first place next season, because the history we can make in doing so would be special.”
Brindley has become a key player for Notts having signed on a free transfer three seasons ago and played in the 2-1 defeat to Grimsby Town in the play-off quarter-final on Monday.
But in the aftermath of that game, head coach Burchnall left the club to join Forest Green Rovers in League One with his assistant Michael Doyle set to join him.
Notts are now on the lookout for his replacement with Danish manager Kim Engstrom the current favourite to replace him and is priced at 4/6 with Bet Victor. Mike Williamson, who is the manager of Gateshead, is second in the running and is priced at 5/1.
He has recently managed HB Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands, but has since left the club.
