Nottinghamshire workers to return to fix road repair that 'looks like speed bump'

Neighbours on a Nottinghamshire street have complained about repair work on a number of potholes, saying they thought speed bumps had been installed. Some residents said they had seen motorists actively avoid tarmac that had been used to fix the deteriorating surface at Kiddier Avenue's junction with Rolleston Drive in Arnold.

Nottinghamshire County Council said workers would be returning to the road to make a "permanent large-scale patch repair". Stuart Cobb, 42, who lives on Kiddier Avenue, said he was "gobsmacked" to see the road after the repairs were carried out on Wednesday (March 8).

"I came back in the evening and what I thought to be a speed bump turned out to be a botched up repair," he told Nottinghamshire Live. "I was gobsmacked - it's like they didn't know how to do it, they got it so wrong.

"I don't understand it. There have been people actively avoiding it and trying to drive around certain parts, but they have no choice but to drive over it."

Adam Trznadl, who used to lay tarmac as part of his job, described it as "terrible". "It looks like they came, dumped the tarmac on, went over it a couple of times and that's it," said the 28-year-old.

"It looks like a speed bump, doesn't it? Yesterday I drove out and I thought 'speed bump', it's a joke mate. I understand they have to rush the job as there are temporary traffic lights nearby and traffic comes past, but just stop it for two or three more minutes.

"You expect more for your money." His partner, Carla Doughty, added: "We just laughed at it. The holes have been terrible, they've got worse and worse."

Michelle Marsden, a mum who lives on the corner of the street, said: "I don't drive but it's an eyesore. It's the second time in as many months they've done the road. It's literally like a road hump.

"If they are going to do it, do it properly. It's a waste of the taxpayer's money. There was no point in them coming."

A highways manager from Nottinghamshire County Council said: "We were made aware of road surface deterioration on the junction of Kiddier Avenue and Rolleston Drive, Arnold, and repair teams attended to make the road safe. Teams will be returning to the site at a later date to make a permanent large-scale patch repair to the area.

"We thank residents for their patience. In the meantime, if the surface deteriorates further, we ask them to report it on the Nottinghamshire County Council website or MyNotts App."
