Nottinghamshire village pub to reopen after takeover by award-winning operators

A pub that closed down earlier this year is set to reopen after a "significant" investment. The Lambley has been taken over by the Nottinghamshire-based Secret Pub Company, which has an outstanding track record when it comes to breathing new life into closed down locals.

The award-winning Railway in Lowdham, The Radcliffe in Radcliffe-on-Trent, and The Plough in Normanton-on-the-Wolds are also part of the company run by Mark Osborne and David Hage. The Radcliffe was named the best pub in the East Midlands in 2022.

All three pubs are family-friendly and renown for the gastro style menus and attractive beer gardens. Now the duo hope to sprinkle a touch of their magic on The Lambley, which despite the takeover will not be getting a name change.

Both inside and out will be getting a revamp, with work beginning on Wednesday, May 10. But it won't be on the scale of some of their other ventures, which were closed for several years.

Mr Osborne "I think they got Christmas out of the way and then closed. We'd earmarked it as being a decent one. We got hold of Star Pubs & Bars, which we have two with anyway, and started the ball rolling from there.

"I think it's had quite a bit of interest from what we can gather so we're really chuffed to get it. It's that village location, which is key to all of them. We have a tick box exercise - they must have a car park, must be able to do a certain amount of covers, the kitchen has got to be right. The village has got to be right,. We couldn't have picked a better village. I think it's a great village.

"The pub had a good reputation in the past. That often helps when it's on people's radar anyway. Giving a brilliant pub back to the village is kind of what we're about. It's always been The Lambley in everyone's eyes. People know it as The Lambley so we definitely won't be changing the name."

The kitchen will be ripped out and equipped with brand new appliances. However, other than that nothing structurally will be changing inside. The new look will include a different colour scheme, with new paintwork, upholstery and fabrics. Outside will also be getting a makeover to bring it up to scratch ready for the summer.

The menu, like the other sites, will have certain familiar dishes, including a burger, fish and chips and some of the classics but there will be other others exclusive to The Lambley, in Main Street.

"We're very excited. I always think its right to be nervous - there's no guarantees with anything, certainly nowadays. We're still super confident even with the crisis of everything being expensive. I think if we can locals to get on board which we've done successfully at all the other places, that is key.

"The team are so good, they put you at ease a bit. We have promoted from within. I think that's invaluable. We wouldn't be doing it if we thought we couldn't make it work," added Mr Osborne.

There isn't a firm opening date but it is hoped it will be around mid-June.
