Nottinghamshire village of Gedling features in top 10 asking prices hotspots in the UK

When thinking of house price rises around the UK, it has traditionally been London that springs to mind.

That's not the case for a new list however, which names the top 10 asking prices hotspots in the UK.

London is nowhere to be seen among Rightmove's big hitters with the historic port of Brixham, in the Devon borough of Torbay, topping the top 10 with an average February 2022 asking price of £329,699 and annual growth of 25%.

House hunters in Nottinghamshire will be keen to notice that Gedling is fifth in the list with an average February asking price of £256, 897.

That's a huge 21% increase on last year.

Residents know all too well why Gedling is so desired, and it is growing too both in the village itself and in the borough.

Work has started on a major project to build 120 homes on former greenbelt land in Gedling - after fears were raised over flooding and human slurry.

Detailed planning permission was passed last October for the development between Linden Grove and Burton Road, off the A612 Colwick Loop Road.

Neighbours previously said they were concerned about the prospect of flooding and the fact that human slurry had been disposed of in the area in the past.

People whose homes back onto the land where the homes will be built previously said the development would spoil their view.

Groundwork has now started on site.

Meanwhile, the proposed expansion of Carlton le Willows Academy in Gedling is set to create 29 new classrooms and create the capacity for a further 400 pupils.

A new two-storey building called the South Block will be built in the first phase of the project.

Work will start on this later this month.

Once finished, this will pave the way for phase two at the secondary school – the internal refurbishment of some of the school’s existing facilities.

The work will lead to the creation of 29 new classrooms, a new main assembly hall, kitchen canteen and dining areas, and a catering pod that will be used to serve other areas of the school.

It will create capacity for a further 400 extra students at Carlton le Willows, creating brand new, state-of-the-art learning facilities.

East Midlands contractor Clegg Construction has been given an £11m contract to carry out the work.
